Myofacial Therapies is a loose term for the wide array of adjunctive therapies we offer to enhance your muscular and fascial health and function. We pride ourselves on providing extensive and unique therapies that better facilitate your healing than manual therapy alone. We provide all of the following:

Fascia Scraping

Also known as instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), fascia scraping is a technique that uses specially designed tools to break down fascial adhesions, improve circulation, and enhance mobility. This method is commonly used in sports therapy, physical therapy, and massage therapy to help with pain relief, muscle recovery, and injury rehabilitation.

What Does Fascia Scraping Do?

Breaks Down Scar Tissue & Adhesions – Helps release tight, restricted fascia (connective tissue around muscles) that can limit movement and cause pain.
Improves Blood Flow & Healing – The scraping motion stimulates circulation, which brings oxygen and nutrients to the area for faster recovery.
Reduces Muscle Soreness & Stiffness – Helps relieve tension in overworked or tight muscles.
Enhances Range of Motion & Flexibility – Loosens up restrictions in soft tissue, improving movement efficiency.
Promotes Lymphatic Drainage – Aids in reducing swelling and inflammation by moving stagnant fluids.

Cupping

Cupping therapy is a traditional healing technique that involves placing cups on the skin to create suction, which helps increase circulation, reduce muscle tension, and promote healing. It is commonly used in massage therapy, physical therapy, sports recovery, and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

How Does Cupping Work?

The suction created by the cups draws blood and fluids to the surface, stimulating circulation and promoting tissue repair. This can help release muscle knots, break up fascial adhesions, and encourage lymphatic drainage.

Types of Cupping Therapy:

  1. Dry Cupping – Cups are placed on the skin and left in place for a few minutes to create suction.
  2. Wet Cupping – A small incision is made before applying the cup to draw out a small amount of blood (used in some traditional medicine practices).
  3. Gliding (Moving) Cupping – Cups are moved over the skin with oil to massage and loosen fascia.
  4. Fire Cupping – A flame is briefly placed inside glass cups to remove oxygen, creating a vacuum before placing them on the skin. *Note, we do NOT do fire cupping.
  5. Silicone or Pump Cupping – Uses silicone or plastic cups with a pump instead of heat for controlled suction.

What Are the Benefits of Cupping?

Improves blood flow – Helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to tissues.
Reduces muscle tension & pain – Useful for tight muscles, trigger points, and sports recovery.
Enhances lymphatic drainage – Helps remove toxins and reduce inflammation.
Aids in injury recovery – Can speed up healing of soft tissue injuries.
Promotes relaxation – Helps reduce stress and improve overall well-being.

Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-frequency sound waves to promote healing in soft tissues, reduce pain, and improve mobility. It is commonly used in physical therapy, sports rehabilitation, and pain management to treat muscle injuries, joint stiffness, and inflammation.

How Does Ultrasound Therapy Work?

A physical therapist or healthcare provider applies a special gel to the affected area and then uses a handheld ultrasound device to deliver sound waves deep into the tissues. These sound waves cause microscopic vibrations that generate heat and increase blood flow, helping tissues heal faster.

Benefits of Ultrasound Therapy:

Reduces pain & inflammation – Helps manage conditions like arthritis, tendonitis, and muscle strain.
Accelerates healing – Increases blood flow, speeding up tissue recovery.
Breaks down scar tissue – Helps improve mobility in injured or post-surgical areas.
Enhances tissue elasticity – Makes muscles and tendons more flexible.
Stimulates cell repair – Encourages natural healing at a cellular level.
